In an unfortunate turn of events, the New Jersey Devils will only be able to start the season with one of the Hughes brothers, as Luke has suffered an injury.
The New Jersey Devils will open the NHL season without one of their best players. The team announced Thursday that Luke Hughes injured his shoulder and will miss six to eight weeks of off-season training. On the bright side? He does not need surgery. Hughes is in New Jersey now, receiving treatment from the team's medical staff.
Luke Hughes had such a great rookie year, posting nine goals and 47 points in 82 games while coming third in voting for the Calder Trophy. He's also the youngest of his talented brothers, Quinn, who gained fame, and Jack.
The Devils are looking for a bounce-back season, especially after a very rough year that saw them miss the playoffs. They do get a big boost with the return of Dougie Hamilton, who missed much of last year, and they shored up their 'D' with the addition of Brett Pesce and Brenden Dillon.
