The Chicago Blackhawks have undergone a lot of change over the last year. A significant amount of this change has come from new management. Now one of the biggest pieces of that management group has jumped ship.
Key Management Piece Abandons The Blackhawks
Jeff Greenberg, the associate general manager of the Chicago Blackhawks, is abandoning the team. A new report from MLB Insider Jeff Passan confirms that he has taken the General Manager position with the Detroit Tigers.
The Detroit Tigers are hiring Jeff Greenberg as their new general manager, sources tell ESPN. Greenberg, who's currently an associate GM with the Chicago Blackhawks, worked with Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris with the Cubs and will be his No. 2 in Detroit.
An executive switching sport is not something we often see but as Passan mentions this is not the first time that Greenberg has done this. He originally went from the Chicago Cubs to the Chicago Blackhawks.
In his time with the Cubs, Greenberg was an integral part of their success on the way to their 2016 World Series Championship. He helped build their analytics department specifically with a focus on development. When Kyle Davidson was hired as the Blackhawks' General Manager Greenberg was tasked with the same mission.
Now he will head to Detroit and try and turn around the Tigers who have struggled to live up to expectations for the past few years. As for the Blackhawks, they will need to find a new head of analytics and associate general manager.
