Connor Bedard is one of the most talented players in the entire NHL, but now he's facing criticism for using a little too much of that skill in game one.
From the moment he entered the NHL a season ago, it became clear that Connor Bedard is not your typical rookie, and while he slowed down towards the end of the season, he put up an incredible campaign. Entering his second season, the expectation is that he will now take a leap and become one of the NHL's best players, but that didn't get off to the best start on Tuesday night.
His team were beat easily by the Utah Hockey Club, and during the game, he tried and failed for a major highlight with his attempted Michigan, something he pulled off in a game last season.
While this type of skill is always great to see, going for it in and failing in game one isn't the best look, and considering the players that were around him, fans voiced their concern and criticism after the play.
However, there were some positives on the night, as Bedard finished with assists on both Blackhawks goals, and given their dire lack of talent in the forward group, it's safe to say that their offense begins and ends with him this season. While some fans may not enjoy the type of offensive hockey that Bedard plays, the fans certainly do, as he was the NHL's top jersey seller a year ago, with this type of play clearly attracting attention.
The young star should be more selective about when he uses this type of skill though, as fans would hate to see him off the ice with an unfortunate injury, as he has become one of the most must-see players in the entire NHL.
