Hockeytown will turn to Baseballtown. On Thursday night, the Detroit Red Wings take a backseat to their neighbors. Yes, the Tigers are in the playoffs, and that's overwhelmed a city where hockey is the sport that runs through the citizens veins.

The Red Wings' season opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins is being pushed back an hour to 8 p.m. because of the Tigers' Game 4 ALDS matchup with the Cleveland Guardians.
The best of 5 series is evened at a game apiece after Kerry Carpenter blasted a go-ahead three run blast against Reliver of the year Emmanuel Clase in the Tigers 3-0 win.
The Guardians bats, which carried the day in a 7-0 series-opening drubbing, were silenced by AL Triple crown winner Tarik Skubal.
The boys are in the midst of an historic playoff run which saw them be sellers at the trade deadline and eight games under .500 in August before becoming the hottest team on the diamond to reach the playoffs for the first time in ten years. Then the group with no MLB free agents on their roster swept the Houston Astros in the wild card round, snapping their seven year run of ALCS appearances.
Being Ilitch Holdings owns both the Tigers and Wings, it makes sense they don't want them competing for fans. And yeah, the traffic around Comerica Park and Little Caesars Arena would be a nightmare with two games happening at the same time, and Thursday's Diamond tilt is a series-clincher one way or another.
Still, fans have been waiting all summer for Red Wings hockey to return. After eight long seasons without a playoff appearance, they finally have a team ready to make a push , and now have to wait longer because of baseball.
It's logical, but isn't great for fans who only care about hockey in that city. Yet to those i say, embrace October baseball!
