Connor Bedard has been every bit the star he was hyped up to be thus far in his NHL career, and the latest move in his career could see him set a shock NHL record.

When the Blackhawks landed the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, they were ecstatic to be drafting a franchise star in Connor Bedard, and after one season, it appears he's been better than expected. So much so that it is now being reported he will be the next Chicago Blackhawks captain, despite not turning 20 until July of 2025.
This is significant because if he is named captain before the 2024/25 season begins, he would officially become the youngest captain in NHL history, a record currently held by Connor McDavid at 19 years and 266 days.
While Connor Bedard's play on the ice has been amazing, it's his work ethic and leadership that has drawn plenty of attention in Chicago, with the BC native already considered a leader within the locker room. Much like Connor McDavid, that locker room isn't full of elite level talent yet, but if they can lock him in with the 'C', it goes a long way to developing not only his leadership and play on the ice, but the rest of the team as well.
He may not be an over the top personality, but Connor Bedard is exactly what teams are hoping for in a captain, so expect it to happen soon, with the standout star making more history in the NHL.
