Alex Ovechkin has never been one to stay in shape in the off-season, and now the Capitals captain has opened up on his public health battle this summer.

This summer has been an intriguing and a chaotic one around the entire NHL, and one of the biggest stories has been Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin, who has been spotted several times looking in less than ideal shape for an NHLer. This has been a concern at times throughout his career, but he always turns up to camp looking in shape, and now the veteran superstar has addressed the concerns that fans have for him.
I try not to deny myself anything at the all inclusive in Turkey. There is a long season ahead and we have a pre-season to get back in form.
While fans may have been concerned, the 38-year old certainly isn't, and it's hard to deny that when he gets back on the ice for the regular season, he's usually ready to go. The 2024/25 campaign could be a special one for The Great 8 as well, as he sits just 41 goals back of Wayne Gretzky's all-time NHL goal scoring record, and after 31 in 2023/24 despite a slow start, that is seemingly well within reach.
The Capitals have done plenty to surround him with talent too, adding Jakob Chychrun, Matt Roy, Andrew Mangiapane and Pierre-Luc Dubois this off-season, so after making the Stanley Cup Playoffs a year ago, expect a healthy Ovi and a great Capitals team once more this season.
