Sean Avery is one of the most unique players in recent NHL memory, and his latest revelation is one that likely won't shock anyone that saw him play.

It's safe to say that, for better or worse, the NHL is in a much different place now than it was 20 years ago, and no player is a better example of that than enforcer and former NHLer turned media personality Sean Avery. The veteran of 580 NHL games has recently come back into the spotlight with the most Sean Avery answer anyone could expect when he revealed what his first big purchase was after his first big NHL paycheque.
"An ounce of mushrooms"

Back in 2001 when he first broke in with the Detroit Red Wings, this may have been a commonplace occurrence in the NHL, but given how players have had to clean up their act on and off the ice 20 years later, this answer wouldn't fly in today's league. However, this was part of what made fans either love or hate Avery as a player and a personality, and if you hated him as an opposing fan, it meant that he was doing his job well.
Over those 580 games, Avery compiled 247 points, with the more telling number being the 1,533 minutes he spent in the penalty box over his decade long career. Ultimately, the answer here isn't family friendly, but neither was Avery when he played in the league, and whether you loved him or you hated him, there will never be another Sean Avery.
