Despite a successful knee surgery, goaltender Laurent Brossoit could be off the Chicago Blackhawks lineup early in the 2024-25 season.

Despite generally being considered a backup goaltender, Laurent Borssoit is one of only 12 active in the league to win a Stanley Cup, having taken the title after the Vegas Golden Knights took down the Florida Panthers in Game 5 of the Finals in 2023. However, it was clearly not a match made in heaven after he re-signed with the Winnipeg Jets to a one-year deal for $1.5 million, a team with which he played in three previous seasons.
However, after the postseason ended with the Florida Panthers victorious over the Edmonton Oilers, the Winnipeg Jets could not keep him around. Instead, Laurent Brossoit signed with the Chicago Blackhawks to a two-year deal. He will take over the #39 jersey with the team, last worn by Luke Philip. He will be earning $3.3 million yearly during his short-term term with the team.
However, this deal could spell trouble in Chicago during the start of the upcoming season. Laurent Broissoint was recently reported to have gone through a successful meniscus surgery in his right knee. Yet, the recovery time is said to be five-to-seven weeks, which could jeopardize the Blackhawks with the first game coming just around the corner, and training camp even sooner.
"Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Laurent Brossoit underwent successful meniscus surgery on his right knee on Tuesday, team physician Michael Terry announced on Wednesday. He's expected to be out approximately 5-7 weeks.

The injury will knock out Brossoit for most of training camp, which begins on Sept. 18, if not all of it. Opening Night for the Blackhawks in Utah is on Oct. 8, which is exactly six weeks from the time of the surgery."
The Chicago Blackhawks begin their preseason against the Detroit Red Wings on September 25th, with the regular season starting on October 8th against Utah HC. With such a short turnaround before the first showdown, Laurent Brossoit's absence can be a problem for the team's early start.
