Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane was caught up in a bad situation where a man on a bike was making racist comments to him and his friend.
Evander Kane shared a video on his Instagram story, which led many to see an argument between him and another person.
The confrontation began when the man allegedly made racist comments toward Evander Kane and his friend, saying, "you people don't belong here." This incident shows the ongoing battle against racism, even for those in the public eye like Kane.
According to Evander Kane, a male on a bike spat on his car as he rode by. When confronted about the situation, the man initially denied everything but then he escalated the situation with a horrific comment that was caught on Kane's video. Luckily for Kane, a friend who happened to be driving by, stopped to help, preventing things from getting a lot worse than they already were.
Evander Kane added his own comments, explaining to everyone what happened.
"This cyclist was riding his bike past my vehicle and decided to spit on it as he rode by. And then confronted him as he tried to deny the claim luckily a friend of mine in the area who was driving by, pulled over to intervene in our conversation. This gentlemen then proceeded to tell me and my friend and I quote 'you people don't belong here' it's incredibly disappointing. There are people still like this today."
The man on the bike stopped arguing as soon as Evander Kane started recording, likely because he realized he was wrong or feared public backlash, as we've seen lately with the cancel culture movement. Luckily for everyone, the situation didn't escalate further, thanks to Kane's friend who arrived on time.
Sadly, racism is still around in today's society, even involving top athletes like Evander Kane. This event not only shows the struggles people face but also serves as a reminder that racism is still very much alive in the world.
This terrible incident is a reminder for everyone to stand against racial discrimination and support those who have to deal with it and also those who are simply trying to spread a message for it to stop.
As for Evander Kane's overall health, his status for next season is still up in the air, but it's expected he'll be placed on LTIR to start the year. Hopefully, he'll be back in time for the playoffs next season.
