The Colorado Avalanche have hired a female coach to join their AHL team the Colorado Eagles. Kim Weiss will be the newest staff member in 2024-25.

Kim Weiss has just been hired by the Colorado Avalanche's affiliate team in the AHL, the Colorado Eagles. She will be the video coach of the Eagles beginning in the 2024-25 season. Prior to accepting this role, she became the first-ever female coach in NCAA Division III history.
Weiss began her professional hockey career playing for Trinity College during the 2010-11 season. She then spent two seasons as an assistant coach in the NAHL, after which she moved on to be the associate head coach for the Maryland Black Bears. She was then named assistant coach for Trinity College in 2023, which led to her becoming the first woman to ever coach at that level.
"We're excited to add Matt and Kim to the Eagles coaching staff," said Avalanche Assistant General Manager and Eagles General Manager Kevin McDonald. «Both individuals bring strong coaching and playing backgrounds and will be valuable additions to Head Coach Aaron Schneekloth's staff."

Jessica Campbell was recently in the NHL headlines as she became the first-ever female to step foot behind an NHL bench when the Seattle Kraken announced her promotion up from the AHL Coachella Valley Firebirds. She will begin her coaching role with the Kraken next month. Perhaps Kim will one day make the next jump from the AHL to the NHL just like Jessica did.
