Joe Sakic had an extraordinary career between Quebec and Colorado, and now the NHL have announced a documentary featuring one specific incident in his career.

Joe Sakic is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in NHL history, with a Hart Trophy, a Conn Smythe and several Stanley Cups, and now, the NHL will be taking an in depth look. Recently, the league announced that Amazon will be debuting a documentary based on the former Avalanche captain and General Manager.
'Saving Sakic' original hockey documentary premieres April 16 on Prime Video in Canada.
The documentary however will focus on one specific event in 1997 when the New York Rangers signed Sakic to an offer sheet, stipulating that $15 million of that contract was to be paid as a signing bonus. Unfortunately for Colorado, they didn't have that type of money, and turned to a surprising source to save their favorite star; Hollywood.
Obviously, the Avalanche would go on to keep their top star, and would ultimately win another Stanley Cup under his leadership, but this is one of the biggest moments in NHL history, and will be a fantastic topic for a documentary. This one comes after the Toronto Maple Leafs 'All In' show on Amazon, with a behind the scenes show following several stars on the way, so it appears that Prime is looking to continue their NHL content.
'Saving Sakic' is set for release on April 16th on Prime and April 17 on ESPN+, and should be a must watch documentary for all NHL fans.
