Ryan Whitney, co-host of the Spitting Chicklet's podcast, shared a new Babcock story yesterday, coming from a former member of the Anaheim Ducks organization. According to Whitney, an unnamed player was on the bench for a pre-season NHL game when Babcock asked him how amazing the environment was. Upon the player agreeing, Babcock promptly said this:
Needless to say, that was a rude and totally unnecessary thing for Babcock to do. The more stories like this one come out, the more it seems to be the case that Babcock enjoyed treating his players like this.
Whitney also reported an instance where a young player was invited to Babcock's home for lunch. Upon arriving, Babcock looked through the player's photos on their phone and then promptly asked him to leave, without offering lunch.
It seems that Babcock won't be getting any calls from around the league as coaching positions inevitably open up, and perhaps, that's a good thing.
