There are a lot of Finnish players with great leadership skills currently on the Canes roster, so adding another Fin to the team in Laine would be an easy transition. Laine would also be able to really get the Canes wingers going next season, and having better line mates would also help Laine produce at a better rate than what he was doing on a very bad Columbus team.
Teams won't be able to speak directly to Laine until he comes out of the NHL's Player Assistance Program, however trades can still be made. Whether Carolina wants to wait to speak to him directly first remains to be seen, but they are definitely right up there along with the Habs in trying to acquire Laine.
