Georges Laraque was seen fighting Matt Rempe of the New York Rangers on the ice, but it was all in good fun as he was training Rempe to be the NHL's top enforcer.
People began to wonder why these two guys were fighting each other in a friendly way on the ice, so Georges Laraque provided an explanation. He claims to have been showing the 21-year-old 6 foot 8 Rempe some of the moves he used to use back in the day when he was the NHL's most feared enforcer.
Georges Laraque thinks Matt Rempe could be unstoppable 💪
Laraque said he was inspired to reach out to Rempe after watching one of his fights, as he felt he still had some work to do to really finesse his fighting style.
"I was like, Oh my God, he's getting hit way too much because he has no technique", Laraque said via The New York Post's Mollie Walker. "And then after a few fights, his face, he had black eyes and everything. After [the] Olivier [fight], when it kind of went a bit bad, I was like, OK, I have to reach out to him.' Because he was so good for the league."
Laraque phoned up Rempe and asked if he wanted to engage in a training session with him so that he could help better his technique, to which Rempe happily agreed, which then led to the fight on the ice that fans witnessed.
