In unfortunate news, Columbus Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau was struck by a drunk driver and died. That driver has now been arrested and charged.

A rumor mill got going after it was learned two cyclists were struck by a driver a few minutes from their residence. Many jumped to conclusions right away, speculating it was the Gaudreau brothers, while others were not convinced. Unfortunately, that fact was confirmed and a little clearer picture is beginning to develop.
According to ESPN's Get Up, through Mike Greenberg, the supposed individual who ran over Columbus Blue Jackets superstar Johnny Gaudreau and his brother has been arrested and charged with two counts of driving under the influence, also having committed vehicular homicide. His name is Sean Higgins, a 43-year-old.

This morning, the Blue Jackets released an emotional statement regarding Johnny Gaudreau's passing, further showing just how cherished this young star of hockey was to his teammates and family.
"Johnny played the game with great joy which was felt by everyone that saw him on the ice. He brought a genuine love for hockey with him everywhere he played from Boston College to the Calgary Flames to Team USA to the Blue Jackets. He thrilled fans in a way only Johnny Hockey could. The impact he had on our organization and our sport was profound but pales in comparison to the indelible impression he made on everyone who knew him. Johnny embraced our community when he arrived two years ago, and Columbus welcomed him with open arms. We will miss him terribly and do everything that we can to support his family and each other through this tragedy."

Our hearts go out to the Gaudreau family for this unimaginably sad time. We are hopeful that everyone affected is able to find the support they need from their community.
