Dallas Stars head coach Peter DeBoer sidelined due to emergency surgery

Peter DeBoer has been a standout coach for his entire NHL tenure thus far, and two years ago after being let go by the Vegas Golden Knights, he was promptly hired by a Western Conference rival in the Dallas Stars. In two years with the team, their record has been a solid 99-42-23, showing that they are a contending team with DeBoer and this talented roster, and after a Western Conference Finals appearance a year ago, the organization believes they can take the next step this year.

Now, their preparations for the new season have been interrupted, as DeBoer missed their pre-season tilt with the Colorado Avalanche to undergo shocking appendix surgery.

Assuming that all went well, the recommended recovery time from this surgery is just a few days, with most patients back to normal activities within the week, but DeBoer isn't a regular patient as he has a very high stress job. However, the regular season is just over two weeks away, so in all likelihood, DeBoer will be back behind the bench before them at 100%, so we hope that the surgery went according to plan with no hiccups.

At 56-years of age, DeBoer has coached in 1,179 NHL games with New Jersey, Florida, San Jose, Vegas and now the Stars, and is one of the more respected names around the NHL, and with such a loaded, balanced roster in Dallas, 2024/25 might be the year they go all the way, health permitting. As of right now, it appears all went well with DeBoer, as we have yet heard nothing to the contrary, so we hope he is all good to go after a tough surgery, and knowing the personality of the Ontario native, he'll push through and be back to normal in no time.
