The Dallas Stars announced today that they will be streaming all their games for free in their regional broadcast zone for at least the next 7 years.

Fans in the Stars viewing region will be able to download the Victory+ app and stream every single Stars game for free beginning in September 2024. This is the first free streaming service of its kind in the NHL, as no other team has ever done this before.
The Dallas Stars have launched a free in-market streaming service for fans called Victory+. It's a 7-year deal with A Parent Media Co. Again, if you live in Stars TV market it is now free to watch the team.
This could potentially result in a huge blow to Gary Bettman in lost revenue, and he is not too happy about that. Bettman has been known to be heavily increasing expansion fees over the last half decade with the addition of Vegas and Seattle, and it seems he keeps most of that fee, as players have claimed to never see any of that money, so this shocking news of free streaming will definitely be hurting his pockets.
#NHL franchise values have skyrocketed. The league will consider expansion in the near future - at a hefty fee.

Players see none of that money. And earnings have remained flat.

#NHLPA's Marty Walsh: «I'm going to ask for some of that.»

Now that Stars' fans will be able to watch their team for free, other teams may start engaging in this move as well in order to boost fan interest around the league. Bettman has been known to step in and put a stop to things he doesn't like, so it will be interesting to see how long these free services actually last.
