It's Preseason but who cares? Wednesday's showdown between the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings had us seeing red anyways. It may not feel like the time of the year for brakes, but don't tell that to Wings captain Dylan Larkin. These players are competitors once they step onto that sheet of ice.

The melee began with Chicago young prospect AJ Spellacy taking a headshot from Larkin. Spellacy's a special kind of player. Drafted by the Blackhawks in the third round of the 2024 NHL draft, he also has a NCAA football background, giving him the strength and skills to handle pressure and hits. He plays the type of sandpaper game fit for the scrappy postseason. It makes sense why there's been comparisons to Stanley Cup champion and enforcer Tom Wilson, of the Washington Capitals.
Earlier, Spellacy had laid a clean hit on Lucas Raymond, who just signed a eight-year, $64.6 million deal with Detroit. The new millionaire didn't appreciate the physicality and he wasn't alone. The hit incensed both Raymond and Larkin who responded with violence. Raymond slashed Spellacy, and then Larkin came flying in with an elbow to the head, putting him in hot water.
The referee was quick to call the penalty, but we all know that might not be enough. Now we wait to see if there are any more repercussions for that Larkin chicken-wing.
