2021 Vezina Trophy Winner Emerges As Top Trade Candidate For The Oilers

One of the biggest inconsistencies for the Edmonton Oilers this season has been goaltending. Early in the season the Oilers struggled mightily with keeping the puck out of their own net. This has led to a need for a better option in the net.

A report from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has led to rumblings that former Vezina Trophy winner Marc-Andre Flery could be at the top of the Oilers' trade list. Fleury would bring stability and experience behind young goaltender Stuart Skinner for the stretch run.

The question then becomes will the Minnesota Wild be willing to part with Fleury this season? If they are how much might it cost?

Rumblings throughout the season have revealed that to land Marc-Andre Fleury a team would need to give up a first-round pick and a top prospect. The Oilers have played well this season and their impressive turn around could warrant going all in.

In the case of the Oilers, this would mean trading their 2024 first and one of Philip Broberg, Xavier Bourgault, or top goalie prospect Olivier Rodrigue.

This would be a hefty package for a goaltender who would be in a 1A 1B situation with Stuart Skinner. It would solidify the questions surrounding the position but might dry up assets to address other issues.

As the trade deadline approaches GM Ken Holland will need to make some crucial decisions about what the team needs most.
