The Edmonton Oilers may be missing a key piece in the lineup tonight, and have made sure to hedge their bets by calling up a rookie from the AHL. The latest report has Evander Kane as a game time decision, while Raphael Lavoie has gotten the call up from Bakersfield.

Raphael Lavoie May Have an Opportunity as Oilers could be without Evander Kane

Earlier today, Lavoie, who has played just six games in the NHL so far, was announced was called up on an emergency basis, while defenceman Ben Gleason was sent back down.

It has since been revealed that Kane is nursing a groin injury, and may be out of the lineup tonight with the Oilers take on the Kings in Los Angeles.
"Hearing Kane is nursing a groin issue. Questionable for tonight." - Mark Spector

Groin Injury May Keep Evander Kane out of Tonight's Lineup, Emergency Call Up Has been Made

While it hasn't been said that Kane is definitely out, Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch has confirmed that Lavoie will be in the lineup tonight, so don't expect to see Kane.
"Kris Knoblauch confirms that Raphael will play tonight.

Will be on the right side of James Hamblin on the fourth line. #Oilers" - Tony Brar

This is a great opportunity for the 23-year-old Lavoie, but its a safe bet the Oilers would far prefer to have Kane healthy and in the lineup. Some savvy social media users pointed out that Kane looked slow in his last game, adding more credence to the groin injury report. Kane has scored 13 goals for Edmonton so far this season, and has 23 points in 32 games.
