The veteran goalie had been off to a horrendous start this season with the Oilers. With the team needing to get back into contention quickly a change was made. Campbell played in 5 games this season and had a 4.50 goals-against average and a 0.873 save percentage.
In his place will likely be either Olivier Rodrigue or Calvin Pickard. Rodrigue has been off to a fantastic start in the AHL but is inexperienced. Pickard brings more NHL experience but less upside.
Over the next 24 hours every team in the NHL will have the opportunity to claim Campbell. If he goes unclaimed he will end up in Bakersfield with Edmonton's AHL team.
