Although the trade deadline has passed and the Stanley Cup playoffs are still active, the Edmonton Oilers and New York Rangers have just completed a trade. The trade in question involves a draft pick and a prospect, which hints at each team's desire to look towards the future.
Oilers Acquire Former 3rd Round Pick
The Edmonton Oilers have acquired former third-round pick of the Rangers, Jayden Grubbe, from New York in exchange for a 5th-round pick in this year's NHL Entry Draft. Grubbe was drafted in 2021 and plays for Red Deer in the WHL.
This past season was Grubbe's first in the WHL where he managed to score at over a point-per-game pace, as he captained Red Deer. Clearly, New York had no intention of signing the young player, but Edmonton saw something they liked.
