A player invited to the Oilers camp on a PTO has just been cut and has now announced his retirement.

Sutter Cut And Announces Retirement

Earlier this offseason, Brandon Sutter signed a PTO with the Edmonton Oilers hoping to return to the NHL after a few seasons away.
He just announced his retirement after being released from his PTO.
The #Oilers have released Brandon Sutter from his professional tryout (PTO) & the veteran forward has announced his retirement from hockey.
Brandon Sutter is retiring after a 770 game NHL career. He had been in camp with the #oilers on a PTO, but says he wasn't completely healthy and wanted to do right by his family.

Sutter had not played in the NHL since 2020-21 where he scored 12 points in 44 games with the Canucks.
Throughout his 770-game career, Sutter played with the Hurricanes, Penguins, and Canucks scoring 152 goals and 289 points along the way.
We wish him all the best on his retirement and congratulate him on a fantastic NHL career.
