The Edmonton Oilers are off to an abysmal start compared to their high standards for their group. One main culprit has been the goaltending. A new plan has been suggested to fix the goaltending that is shocking fans.
Oilers Struggle To Keep The Puck Out Of Their Own Net
In recent weeks the Edmonton Oilers have been getting scored on at incredibly high rates. Whether it is defensive mistakes or bad goaltending things are not good enough. The situation got so bad for Jack Campbell that he was sent down to the American Hockey League (AHL).
#Oilers roster moves
Goaltender Calvin Pickard has been recalled from the @Condors. Goaltender Jack Campbell has cleared waivers & been assigned to Bakersfield.
Campbell's replacement Calvin Pickard has not been much better in his limited opportunities since being called up. This has led to rumors that the Oilers are going to make a drastic change with their goaltenders.
Oilers Shock Fans With New Goaltending Plan
A new report from NHL insider Chris Johnston has indicated that the Oilers might be re-considering their decision to send Jack Campbell down.
After a pair of bad starts in the AHL Campbell has found a groove and some confidence. This new confidence apparently has the team considering a re-call for Campbell.
One option to consider as well is Jack Campbell who has been down in the AHL playing in Bakersfield coming off a shut-out, is a potential option to come back up and rejoin the Oilers, so maybe, at least initially here in the short-term, that's the kind of move they might make to try and spark a better outcome.
This sudden switch in opinion doesn't seem to make sense from the Oilers. Just a week or two ago they seemed to be done with Campbell. Now they are hoping he can be the savior.
One thing is for sure the Oilers need to make improvements fast. The prime years of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are going to waste because they cannot be surrounded by complementary pieces.
Oilers General Manager Ken Holland needs to get to work piecing things together.
