It has been a tough couple of weeks for 38-year-old NHL veteran Corey Perry. He has had his contract terminated by the Blackhawks and disgusting rumors involving himself have been circulating around the internet. Now it seems there might be some good news on the horizon for him.

Ken Holland Looking Into Signing Perry To Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers have been one of the more disappointing NHL team so far this season. However, their better play in recent games has given the fanbase some hope that the team might be able to turn it around enough to make the playoffs. Once you're in, who knows what might happen next. Now Ken Holland, Oilers general manager, is looking at the possibility of adding some reinforcements to his squad in the form of Corey Perry.
Oilers reporter Jim Matheson believes that Perry could bring a significant boost to the Oilers while filling a hole on the team's roster. He also noted that Ken Holland has not been afraid to sign players with prominent personal baggage.
If Holland went out on a limb and hit a home run by signing forward Evander Kane, who had lots of off-ice baggage, he likely wouldn't be averse to talking to Pat Morris, Perry's agent and direct line to his 196 playoff games and 124 playoff points.

Perry Could Rejoin NHL As Early As This Year

This news comes at the same time as it is being reported that Perry could very well have a path to returning to the NHL this season. NHL insiders have been discussing the possibility that Perry could return for a few days now, with Elliotte Friedman reporting that the Leafs could potentially have some interest.
Elliotte Friedman on the JMS:

- Leafs will add "beef" to the lineup. Think of players like Austin Watson, Ryan Reaves, and Miles Wood type players. Friedman wonders about Corey Perry
- There will be clarity on Ryan O'Reilly soon
TSN's Chris Johnston followed this up today with an article published in the Athletic indicating that Perry could be back in the NHL this season.
Rival teams currently with no more knowledge about what led to Perry's contract termination than the general public are expected to keep tabs on his situation. They'd like to gain a better understanding of the circumstances surrounding his exit from Chicago to gauge if he may ever be in a position to resume his hockey career, and will eventually need to see where he's at personally after being given time off to seek treatment. There may yet be a path back to the NHL for Perry.
Only time will tell what the next chapter for Corey Perry looks like, but it certainly seems like NHL teams are still interested in his services at the very least.
