NHL Insider Reveals Jack Campbell's Grim Future in Edmonton
This NHL insider has just revealed what the Edmonton Oilers are planning for Jack Campbell, and it doesn't look good for him.
Spector Reveals Oilers Are Accepting Their Mistake in Campbell Contract
The Edmonton Oilers are slowly growing out of their early season struggles, making their way back up the standings on the back of an incredible win streak. However, they still have gaps to fill in their roster, particularly the one left by sending Jack Campbell to the AHL.
It was reported previously that the Oilers had plans to bring Campbell back up to the NHL to give him another shot. Now, however, insider Mark Spector has revealed that they are facing their losses and will keep him in the AHL.
"This signing's been a disaster. Just a disaster. And you are getting out of it."
Spector notes that the Oilers are coming to terms with the fact that they made a mistake offering Campbell such a large salary and that he is likely an AHL goaltender for them.
Campbell's Struggles in the AHL Continue Preventing Oilers From Giving Him a Shot
While all the hope was there for Campbell to start a redemption arc, he has failed to turn his game around in the AHL. He has now played 9 games with the Bakersfield Condors and had an ugly 3.22 goals against average and .894 save percentage. Not nearly enough for another shot in the NHL.
God bless Jack Campbell, but the #Oilers cannot afford to bring him up and give him another chance. Just move on from the player. This team is playing very well and they cant afford to risk it on poor goaltending.
The Oilers will be in a tough position to move this salary off their books, and with their Cap space already being tight, this $5 million could clearly be better used elsewhere.
