The Edmonton Oilers may have turned momentum with a Heritage Classic win over the Calgary Flames, but that doesn't mean all their problems have gone away.
A struggling group
Yesterday, the Oilers made headlines when they inked a deal with veteran forward Sam Gagner, and now, we perhaps know the reason why.
While plenty of attention has been on the defensive and goaltending struggles, Head Coach Jay Woodcroft has now called out the bottom-six forward group, leading to the departure of Adam Erne.
«Erne is paying the price for the group that hasn't produced. We need more form our bottom-five,» Woodcroft.
With the addition of Gagner and the off-season acquisition of Connor Brown, this team has a chance to build a solid group on their third and fourth lines, but for now, Woodcroft has made it clear that improvements need to be made.
