In a major development, the Ottawa Senators have been handed a severe penalty for their mishandling of the Evgenii Dadonov trade in 2021, rendering their trade with the Anaheim Ducks invalid.
As a consequence, the Ottawa Senators will be deprived of a first-round draft pick in one of the upcoming three years.
The #GoSensGo are losing a 1st round pick in 2024, 2025 or 2026 due to the Dadonov ordeal.
Per the NHL: "The determination as to which pick will be forfeited will be made by Ottawa within 24 hours of the conclusion of the Draft Lottery for that year."
The forfeited pick will simply be skipped in the chosen draft year. If the Senators opt to retain their 2024 and 2025 first-round picks, the penalty will automatically apply to their 2026 selection.
As the 2024 draft approaches and the Senators' season concludes, this incident is poised to become a significant talking point once more.
