Last night the Edmonton Oilers and Minnesota Wild faced off for the first time since both fired their head coaches. The game was tightly contested and filled with controversy after a questionable hit.

Oilers' Kane Creates Controversy With Questionable Hit

On a normal forecheck during the game Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin was skating back for a puck. Unbeknownst to him Oilers' forward Evander Kane was barreling down on him and delivered a huge hit that sent Brodin crashing into the boards head-first.
Brodin would be forced to leave the game and not return. The violent nature of the hit and ultimate injury to Brodin had many calling for a suspension to Kane. Well, today the NHL's Department of Player Safety decided Kane's fate.

Kane's Learns His Fate After Decision By The NHL

This morning a new report confirmed Evander Kane's future when it comes to this incident. According to Wild reporter Michael Russo Evander Kane will not face discipline from the NHL.
"Hearing no discipline coming to Evander Kane likely because Brodin shoulder checks and didn't protect himself despite fact Evander Kane needlessly drives his head into the glass."

"Still, fact this wasn't a Wild power play is outrageous. Fact the refs then fall for Kane timberrrring like a tree in a forest to put the Wild a man down en route to winning goal is even more outrageous

Way Brodin has been playing, this will be a big loss if he's out for #mnwild
Russo believes discipline should have been handed down especially taking into account Brodin's injury. Regardless Kane will continue to play while Brodin begins the recovery process from the injuries sustained on the play.
