The best NHL player in the world, Connor McDavid had his leadership abilities revealed by one of his teammates.
Oilers Defenseman Reveals McDavid's Leadership Role
Connor McDavid has led by example for the Edmonton Oilers leading them to multiple playoff berths and leading them past the first round multiple times.
His leadership was on display after defenseman Vincent Desharnais made a mistake and came up to him, ashamed.
The mistake cost the Oilers a minus one on the play, McDavid was on the ice.
Deharnais went up to McDavid to apologize about his stats, but McDavid's response caught him off guard.
This is how Desharnais described the scenario:
"We all got minus one, and obviously, like I know his stats, and so after the game I went to see him. I'm like, �Hey man, like, sorry. That was a bad pass on me. Dash one is on me. I'm sorry, dude.' And he turned around. He looked at me and he was, like, �Dude, I don't care about the stats. I just want to f*ckin win.' It was not like staged. He legit turned and, �Listen, I just want to f*ckin' win.' And I'm like, �All right, got it, Captain.' I was like, that's awesome, that's what I want to hear. I was so fired up. I was like, �Dude, you tell me that right now, that's awesome.' And like people always tell me, �Oh, Connor is points.' But when playoffs show up, you better show up, because he's going to war. He's shown me that he's he's not just a skill guy, he's not a point guy, he's a player. He's a hockey player."
McDavid's Goals
McDavid has been dedicated to trying to bring a Stanley Cup home to Edmonton and is now in a "cup or bust" mode.
The Oilers lost in the 2nd round to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights.
For many the Oilers were the hardest competition the Knights had to face before lifting Lord Stanley.
During this past season, the Oilers lead the league in goals and power play percentage and with a full season of Mattias Ekholm on the roster the Oilers look poised to go deep in the playoffs once more.
