The Edmonton Oilers were so close to the Cup in 2023/24, and now if they want to go further next season, they will need to overcome this major obstacle.
After a slow start to the 2023/24 season and a coaching change, the Edmonton Oilers had plenty of obstacles to overcome, and they did so brilliantly as they fought all the way to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. They may have fallen short, but they attacked this off-season aggressively, adding more pieces as they look to go one step further next year.
Now, another obstacle has emerged, as a recent report shows that Edmonton will travel the fourth most of any team in the NHL next season, with their tally coming in at 50,000 miles exactly, over 18,000 more than the team travelling the least in the NHL.
Given the success they had in the Stanley Cup Finals by travelling all the way to Florida, it appears as though a gruelling schedule may not hold them back too much, but given how fatigue can set in with long miles, it's something to take into consideration. Ultimately, they won't use this as an excuse with the depth and star power on this team, but if things get hard down the stretch, this certainly won't help them as they look for their first Stanley Cup since 1990.
