The Toronto Maple Leafs seem to have found their replacement for 30-goal scorer Tyler Bertuzzi, who left the team to sign with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Nikolaj Ehlers of the Winnipeg Jets seems to be the man the Maple Leafs are targeting to replace Tyler Bertuzzi, after a significant hole opened up in their top 6 forward list when he left to join the Blackhawks. Ehlers has put up a total of 457 points in his NHL career, with a fantastic +92 rating, proving he is responsible in his own end.
Nik Ehlers is a first-line-calibre talent and the Jets will miss him sorely when he's gone. If they manage to win a trade with him as the centrepiece I will be surprised.
Ehlers hasn't had the ice time he'd like to have in Winnipeg, and he is entering the final year of his contract so he will need to produce if he wants a big payday, so a change of scenery to Toronto could do wonders for him. On the other hand, Nick Robertson of the Leafs no longer wants to remain in Toronto, so swapping both players might be a fix for both teams.
Disappointing to hear that Nick Robertson has requested a trade from the Leafs. His game definitely has potential: hard shot, some speed and skill. Obviously still a ways to go to round out his game, but I am hopeful
Leafs fans know the time is now to win while William Nylander and Auston Matthews are in their prime, so adding Ehlers to an already talented Leafs lineup would definitely help them take the next step in the playoffs.
