The Edmonton Oilers have had an odd season full of unusual story lines. Last night, one Oilers forward completed his own story as a season-long drought came to an end.

Brown Scores First Goal Of The Season, Crowd Gives Huge Standing Ovation

The Oilers signed Connor Brown to a one-year deal over the summer, hoping that the veteran forward would be able to return to form after recovering from a major injury. Unfortunately for the team, he hasn't been the same. However, he did record his first goal of the season last night. His first in 55 games.
The moment clearly meant a lot to him, but it meant a lot to his teammates as well. Their reaction on the bench says it all.

Similarly, the fans in attendance recognized the special moment. They celebrated as if the Oilers had just won a playoff series, giving the veteran forward a standing ovation that seemed to go on forever.

Brown Makes Joke About Ending His Goal Drought

After the game, Brown made a hilarious joke about finally scoring. As we was heading toward the locker room, he made the traditional monkey-off-the-back gesture, a common move in the NHL. However, he also made a joke about the monkey, referring to it as a 'full-blown gorilla.'
"That's the heaviest monkey of all time. Its a full-blown gorilla
The 30-year-old made sure to shout out the fans after the game. He showed a great appreciation for them, that they were willing to stick with him and root for him in such a difficult season on a personal level.
Following the win, the Oilers look to continue to push for better playoff positioning. The team is now just nine points back of the Canucks with three games in hand. It is possible that they could win the division after starting out in 31st place.
