The one-year deal he signed with the Oilers, was in hopes of chasing a second Stanley Cup in his career. He last won with the Anaheim Ducks in 2007, and made three come consecutive finals with three different teams, in the Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens, and Tampa Bay Lightning from 2020-22. In the regular season, he puts up solid numbers despite playing in a bottom-six role, scoring eight goals and racking up 13 points in 38 games.
His contract includes performance bonuses tied to how well the Oilers do in the playoffs. With Edmonton facing the Stars in the Western Conference finals tied at a game apiece, there's a lot on the line for Perry, with thousands of dollars hanging in the balance.
Even though he's hit the ice in 10 out of 14 playoff games so far, he's still banking on the Oilers making a Cup run. If it doesn't play another game in the series, he'll still cash in on that bonus since he's suited up for over half the playoff games.
That $50,000 bonus will end up counting against the Oilers' cap hit next season as a sort of penalty. With the team already shelling out over $3 million in bonuses, they're feeling the pinch.
