Right now, the Edmonton Oilers are chasing that Stanley Cup dream. But behind the scenes, there's some serious business brewing, surrounding GM Ken Holland.
Edmonton Oilers president Jeff Jackson reported to Pierre LeBrun yesterday, hinting that they'll be on the hunt for a new GM once the playoffs wrap up. Paul Coffey might just slide into that role, according to Oilers writer Allan Mitchell.
Now, Holland's been eyeing retirement, especially with those whispers getting louder. Yet, a Stanley Cup win could make moving on from the organization easier.
Throughout the season, names like Mark Hunter, Brad Holland, and Keith Gretzky have been thrown into the mix thanks to their experience in various front offices and scouting departments.
But Coffey brings that NHL legend status and great wisdom as the current Edmonton assistant coach. He's helped the Oilers blueliners tremendously since going behind the bench with head coach Kris Knoblauch in November.
Meanwhile, Mark Hunter's been around in hockey operations experience, thanks to his time with the Toronto Maple Leafs and the London Knights.
