The Stanley Cup Finals are well and truly over, but after snubbing Gary Bettman of accepting the Conn Smythe Trophy, Connor McDavid is facing more criticism.

For days after the Stanley Cup Finals were over, the debate raged on about Connor McDavid and his decision to snub the presentation of the Conn Smythe Trophy after the team lost in Game 7 against the Florida Panthers. Now, the last man to win the award in a losing effort has officially given his final comments on the situation;
I feel for Connor, he played so well and he deserved that trophy in my mind. I do think that he should have gone and accepted the trophy. The game is always bigger than the individual and this is a major trophy for the NHL, and it would have shown kids that winning or losing, you still present yourself the right way and accept your fate.
From anyone else's perspective, this argument may be questioned, but J.S. Giguere knows exactly what this situation feels like, and he maintains that Connor's actions weren't a good look for the NHL. Still, we have now gone through the 2024 NHL Draft as well as free agency, with the Oilers making plenty of moves to get better as a team, and now the focus shifts to the 2024/25 campaign where they look to win their first Stanley Cup in 35 years.
Whether Connor wins another award or not, this likely won't be held against him for years to come, as he was consoling the Oilers locker room after a brutal loss and an incredible playoff run, so let's hope this is the last comment on the situation for quite some time.
