The Winnipeg Jets have seemingly been trying to move Rutger McGroarty for weeks now, and a recent report reveals his attitude cost them a significant asset.

The 2024 NHL Draft was a wild one, with many blockbuster trades going down, and according to a recent report, the Winnipeg Jets almost pulled off a move to trade disgruntled prospect Rutger McGroarty.
"At least two other teams thought they had a deal for Rutger McGroarty during the first round of the draft. One of them, to my knowledge, was put off by the idea that his hope was a clear path to NHL playing time"

According to Winnipeg reporter Murat Ates, the Jets had a deal in place with the Minnesota to move McGroarty, but ultimately, Zeev Buium fell to the No. 12 spot, with the Wild then trading up to land the star out of the University of Denver. According to the report, it was McGroarty's insistence on a clear path to the NHL without earning his time that put some teams off, but if Buium wasn't available, perhaps Minnesota would have made the deal.
Now, Winnipeg have some big decisions on their hand about McGroarty's future, but for someone that's not proven at the professional level, he's becoming much more of a headache than this team expected or likely wants to deal with.
