Leon Draisaitl is easily one of the best players in all of the NHL and his next contract will see him get paid like one.
Rishaug Reveals Draisaitl's Next Contract Will Potentially Break Records
Recently on TSN's Overdrive, it was revealed by Ryan Rishaug that Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl may break records with his next contract. When discussing a dollar amount per year, it appears that Draisaitl could be the highest-paid player in the NHL as soon as next year.
"What does his dollar look like? People might think I'm absolutely out of my mind for saying this but I'm telling you, 13-14, for what this player has accomplished, get ready. Start thinking 14 range." - Ryan Rishaug
Rishaug also mentioned the possibility that Draisaitl will not sign this offseason forcing the Oilers to potentially move him for a package that can help them for the foreseeable future.
"If Leon Draisaitl won't extend this summer, can you let him go into his unrestricted year? The negotiation really gets underway for real this summer. If he's not willing to sign on the dotted line, are you gonna walk him into his unrestricted year and potentially lose that player for nothing?"
This will put the Oilers between a rock and a hard place where they either shell out for Draisaitl or are forced to move him for a package that will not help them win now as much as Draisaitl would.
