Now, the question has been asked by reporter Jim Matheson as to why it took so long for the surgery to be confirmed, especially if it's been publicly speculated for quite some time.
Matheson somewhat answers his own question shortly after, speculating that it may have been Kane himself that didn't want to interrupt his summer with surgery, while both parties may have looked at rest as the best option going forward.
Whatever the case, it now appears he'll miss at least a few months and will head to LTIR, giving the Oilers the opportunity to use that significant cap space to make some more big moves. With nothing but a Stanley Cup as the goal this season, this latest distraction could play a negative role for the Oilers this season, but if Kane gets healthy in time for a significant run to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, all will likely be forgotten.
