The team announced that they had signed Skinner to a one-year, 3 million dollar contract yesterday during the madness that was the first day of free agency. It is a good value deal for the Oilers as Skinner put up 24 goals last season.
In fact, Skinner has been among the top goal scorers at 5 on 5 for the last decade plus. Since 2010, the only player with more 5 on 5 goals is Alex Ovechkin.
After signing the deal, Skinner revealed why he chose to sign with the Oilers after being bought out by the Sabres. Apparently he was flattered by the team's 'consistent interest' in him, but he was also drawn to the possibility of playing in the playoffs for the first time in his career.
Oddly enough though, Skinner joins a growing list of Oilers players sharing names. Of course, the team's starting goaltender heading into next season is expected to be Stuart Skinner. The two players are not related though.
The Oilers should have a lethal offense once again next season. If Jeff Skinner can have a bounce back season, who knows how many goals he can score playing with the likes of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl?
