It's clear the Edmonton Oilers would like to add one or two more pieces ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline. They will look around and scavenge, but ideally they'd like to add someone into their top 6-9 forward fold. The Ottawa Senators have one to keep an eye for, Vladimir Tarasenko who is on his final year of his short contract, can be a hot commodity for contending teams.
Oilers have their eyes set on Tarasenko
Vladimir Tarasenko didn't sign with the Senators to not be in the playoffs, former GM Pierre Dorian even had his eyes set to the playoffs, but the Senators have been nothing short of a disappointment and would need a miracle for them to play post season hockey. Pierre Lebrun mentioned the Oilers as potential suitors for the Russian sniper.
Tarasenko will definitely be open to a move if it means he can play in the playoffs come May. He has a 1 year 5M cap hit and can easily be retained at 50% to maximize the haul.
A potential trade between the Senators and Oilers can be the following:
TRADE PROPOSAL
Oilers receive: Vladimir Tarasenko
Senators receive: 2024 1st round pick and Beau Akey
A first round pick and a 1b prospect can do the job for both parties.
