Former Edmonton Oiler Philip Broberg had only good things to say about Oilers fans and his former team, however he is very excited to be moving on to St. Louis.
Philip Broberg's excitement level is typical of a player who is joining a new team, with the usual cliches being used of how excited they are to be there, etc.
There's an extra reason why Philip Broberg is very excited to join the Blues, and that's because the 23-year-old has been heavily overpaid via the offer sheet. He is going to be making $9.16 million over the next two seasons with the Blues. Broberg earned this big contract despite having only ever played 81 career NHL games.
«At the end of the day it's business,» he said, when asked why he decided to go the offer-sheet route, the method being so rare that one had not successfully been employed in the NHL since 2021.
Philip Broberg only played 12 games with the Oilers last season, so he's no doubt excited for this fresh start and is hopeful now that he's been signed to such a big salary, he will be slotting in to pretty much all of the team's games next season.
Philip Broberg wanted the fans to know that this wasn't personal and wanted them to know that sometimes things like this in hockey happen, due to it being a business.
"I have nothing bad to say about the fans at all,» Broberg said. »I'm very happy about my time in Edmonton.
«The fans in Edmonton are great."
Fans of the Edmonton Oilers have December 7th highlighted in their calendars, as Philip Broberg and the St. Louis Blues will be coming to Edmonton for the first time of the season, and it will be very interesting to see what type of reception he gets by the Edmonton faithful.
