The Stan Bowman hiring in Edmonton unsurprisingly wasn't handled well, and it's brought up old comments from Wayne Gretzky with major criticisms.

For the past 24 hours, the Edmonton Oilers have been under fire for the hiring of Stan Bowman, who was involved in the 2010 Chicago Blackhawks scandal that protected a dreadful person who performed heinous acts towards and 18-year old. Unsurprisingly, fans don't want a person like that in charge of their organization, especially after all of the good will they built up over the playoffs and the beginning months of the off-season.
Now, old comments from Oilers legend Wayne Gretzky have surfaced, and it's certainly a scathing indictment of the new General Manager.
"I'm sitting here thinking, as a parent 'My son is 18 years old and he's going to maybe be drafted by that team...I want to know my 18-yr-old son is going to be protected."
This echoes the sentiments of the majority of Oilers fans over the past 24 hours, but according to Jeff Jackson, the front office did their due diligence before making this hire, and are confident it's the right move for the organization.
Unfortunately for Oilers fans, this is something that they will have to live with moving forward, but Bowman still has plenty of good will left to build up before he's accepted, so we will see if these comments from Gretzky hold some fans back from accepting the new move.
