The Philadelphia Flyers had a less-than-ideal season, finishing in the bottom 10 in the standings, and losing out in the Bedard sweepstakes. While they might've lost out on one top young talent, they might have their eye on another promising forward.

Flyers Interested in Caufield

A recent report by Flyers reporter Jesse Bell indicates that Philly has their eye on the Canadiens' young star winger, Cole Caufield. Caufield, who is fresh off of his ELC, has yet to sign a contract extension with the Canadiens, leaving many wondering what his future with the club looks like.
The Flyers are in an interesting spot, as they're trying to get younger and win at the same time. By offer-sheeting Caufield, they'd only be giving up future assets, meaning they wouldn't lose any current roster players. If new GM Daniel Briere is given the green light to go ahead with such an exciting move, we could see the Flyers ink Caufield to a long-term deal.

What About Montreal?

While it's unlikely that Montreal's management wants to part ways with their most exciting young player, especially one with 50-goal potential, the idea of four first-round picks coming from a bad Philadelphia team is certainly enticing. While losing Caufield would hurt, they could have the opportunity to add four impact players to their team over the next few years or trade those picks for NHL-ready players.
They could also just match the offer sheet, and keep Caufield for the duration of the contract.
