Montreal Canadiens star Cole Caufield has announced on Instagram that he's changing his jersey number from 22 to 13 this season, and it's more than just a number swap.

He's doing it to honor former Calgary Flames and most recently Columbus Blue Jackets superstar Johnny Gaudreau, who tragically passed away last week alongside his brother Matthew as the two were struck by a drunk driver while riding their bikes.
Playing alongside your hero is something most of us only dream of, but Cole got that chance with Johnny when the two represented team USA at the World Championships.
From the moment they met, it was clear how special Johnny was. Cole described him as the most welcoming, genuine, and funniest guy he'd ever met-someone everyone naturally gravitated towards.

They became fast friends, and Johnny's down-to-earth nature and deep care for others left a permanent impression on the 23 year-old.
The decision to switch to No. 13 carries a deep emotional weight. It's a tribute to the bond they shared and a way for Cole to keep Johnny's memory alive on the ice. Gaudreau, at 5'9", and Caufield, standing at 5'8", were two of the smallest players in the NHL last season. It's awesome to see one little guy honoring another.
The tragic passing of Johnny and his brother Matthew in New Jersey was heartbreaking, and this gesture by Caufield is a touching way to honor their legacy and for fans to remember them as he takes his career arch and blossoms into a superstar himself.
