Finally, the Leon Draisaitl saga has come to an end-no more trade rumors, no more contract drama. Now, both Leon and the Oilers can focus on what truly matters: hockey. This deal is a huge win for Oil Country.

With Draisaitl resetting the market at a record-breaking $14 million AAV over eight years, it's a commitment that shows Edmonton plans to contend for the Stanley Cup for many years to come.
With the salary cap set to rise in the coming years, the percentage of the cap taken up by Draisaitl's contract will actually decrease, making it even more team-friendly over time.
It's worth noting that the deal was actually reached last week, but out of respect for the tragic loss of Columbus Blue Jackets star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew, both sides agreed to delay the announcement until after Labor Day.
The Gaudreaus were struck by a drunk driver, Sean Higgins, on Thursday night-a devastating event that shocked the entire hockey community.
After leading the Oilers to the Stanley Cup Final last season, it's no surprise that Draisaitl secured his bag, making him the highest-paid player in NHL history.
This $14 million AAV will kick in next season and isn't just a record; it's a statement. With 31 points in 25 games during the Oilers' postseason run and at least 40 goals and 100 points in five of the last six seasons, the 28 year-old has proven he's a franchise player.
Before drafting Draisaitl third overall in 2014, the Oilers were in the playoffs wilderness, missing out for eight consecutive seasons. The streak hit double digits culminating the «Decade of Darkness», before Leon and Connor Mcdavid snapped the drought 2017 and they haven't looked back.
Oilers fans, this is your time. With Draisaitl locked in, the future looks brighter than ever.
