The Montreal Canadiens drafted Saku Koivu's son Aatos in the 3rd round of the NHL Draft in Las Vegas.
Kent Hughes and the Habs management hit a home run for their fanbase. They decided to use their 70th overall pick to draft the son of their former captain Saku Koivu, Aatos Koivu.
"With the 70th-overall selection, the Canadiens have drafted forward Aatos Koivu from TPS JR."
Saku was the Habs' captain for nine seasons, between 1999 and 2009:
"Aatos Koivu was selected in Round 3 by the @CanadiensMTL, the club his father captained for nine seasons."
Aatos should become a fan favorite in Montreal, as his father was.
Koivu is remembered in Montreal for coming back with the Canadiens after beating cancer:
The son should also have a great impact in Montreal, and could have a bright future in the NHL:
"Aatos Koivu, picked by MTL, is a traditional supportive centre but also has a very good release. A diverse shooter who bags a competent in-stride release and a very accurate one-timer."
With Ivan Demidov at the 5th pick, Michael Hage at the 21st, and Koivu at the 70th, the Montreal Canadiens made many fans happy in the past 24 hours.
Everything indicates that he's not done surprising them. Stay tuned.
