The Nashville Predators have had a huge off-season, and now one of their top stars has revealed that it almost went so much different with a Mitch Marner trade.

For months now, speculation has run rampant around a potential Mitch Marner trade by the Toronto Maple Leafs, and since they departed the Stanley Cup Playoffs, he has been linked to several teams around the league. The strongest rumour of all however was his link to the Nashville Predators, and now in an interview, Ryan O'Reilly, former Maple Leaf has revealed how hard he pushed GM Barry Trotz to pursue Marner.
«Prior to the Predators spending a whack of dough on free agents (Steven) Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault and Brady Skjei, ex-Leaf Ryan O'Reilly did his very best to convince GM Barry Trotz to make a push and trade for Mitch Marner," Kypreos said.
He didn't reveal how close things came to Trotz officially approaching Toronto, and whether or not Brad Treliving is still open to moving the star forward, but this goes to show just how much respect the veteran O'Reilly has for Marner. Ultimately, the Predators would land three star free agents in Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault and Brady Skjei, so they've taken a step forward to their Stanley Cup goals, while this interview shows significant interest in Marner league wide.
