Troubling update on former No. 1 Overall Pick
Many within the Rangers believed that when they landed the top pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, they'd found their superstar of the future, but three years later, things aren't looking too great.
A failed experiment
Anyone who's watched the Rangers over the past few years will have seen the flashes of greatness from Alexis Lafreniere, but unfortunately, he's just never been able to put it all together.
Unfortunately, things have only gotten worse in recent times, with a Rangers beat writer releasing this shocking statement on Alexis' form heading into his fourth season in the NHL.
For the most part Lafreniere has looked like an undrafted invitee to training camp on a tryout.

This is perhaps the worst possible update for Lafreniere, who was expected to step into a top-six role sometime over the past year or two, but now, it appears as though he's fighting for a spot on the roster, despite the obvious talent.
In 262 games to start his career, Lafreniere has managed just 47 goals and 91 points, while other picks from that draft have put it all together, and now, the Rangers have a massive decision to make, so we will see which direction they go with a former top pick.
