Maple Leafs fans reveal ideal Mitch Marner blockbuster trade

There's talk of a potential trade that would send Mitch Marner to the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for Nikolaj Ehlers, Rutger McGroarty, and a 2025 1st-round pick.

The deal sees the Leafs acquiring two highly coveted players along with a first-round draft pick in the 2025 NHL draft. In return, the Leafs would send Marner, whose $10.9 million cap hit expires next season, across the country.

Ehlers, is entering the final season of his seven-year contract with a $6million AAV. The 28 year-old had 61 points but is durable and played in all 82 regular-season games last season. He's one of the most durable two-way players in the league.

Meanwhile, McGroarty has yet to sign his NHL entry-level deal since being drafted two years ago and has attitude issues about his playing time. It's forced the Jets to place him on the trade block.

David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reported that Ehlers "is not interested" in signing a contract extension with the Jets and told GM Kevin Cheveldayoff to explore trade options.

Whether or not a Marner trade will actually happen remains uncertain. However, the ongoing speculation suggests it could be on the horizon.

Trading Marner for Ehlers, McGroarty, and a 2025 1st-round pick wouldn't bolster Toronto's blueline. Yet that's no longer a requirement, as GM Brad Treliving already inked deals with Chris Tanev and Stanley Cup champion from the Florida Panthers, Oliver Ekman-Larsson. What it would do, is boost their forward depth in the long run, while Winnipeg gets rid of two players who seemingly don't want to wear their crest anymore.
